STUDENTS were excited to see their rockets blast off at Cedar Grove during the fifth annual Australian Youth Rocketry Challenge on Saturday.
Australian Youth Rocketry Challenge president Blake Nikolic said the weather was perfect for launching the primary and secondary students' rockets.
Mr Nikolic said many of the students made and decorated rockets at school for the challenge with the 17 teams hailing from Boonah State School, Rochedale South State School, Beaudesert State School, Canterbury College, Indooroopilly State High School and Eaglehawk Secondary College near Bendigo in Victoria.
"There were two challenges, a primary challenge and a secondary challenge," Mr Nikolic said.
"The primary challenge has to fly a rocket that has good aesthetics, is constructed well, flies well and recovers well.
"Secondary, is the bigger one and the teams have to launch a payload with a raw egg and the criteria is aiming for 800 feet of altitude.
"The aim is for 40 to 45 seconds aloft and recover the egg unbroken."
