THE state government has committed $670,000 to install right-turning lanes at two notorious North Maclean intersections.
Dangerous conditions at the intersection of Wearing Road and the Mt Lindesday Highway were again highlighted in March this year when a 19-year-old Jimboomba woman lost her life in a crash.
Another victim of an accident at the same corner brought the issue to the attention of Member for Logan Michael Pucci.
Mr Pucci sponsored an online petition to have the intersections improved, which attracted 304 signatures.
He also had the regional director for Transport and Main Roads Paul Noonan visit and inspect the areas of concern.
"I am very happy to be able to announce, as a result of these actions with community support, Logan drivers will now benefit from more than $670,000 worth of new safety projects as part of the next round of the $82 million Safer Roads Sooner," Mr Pucci said.
"While we currently have the lowest road toll on record, any death on our roads is a tragedy, and I'm committed to ensuring our roads are as safe as possible."
Wearing Road will receive $295,000 and St Aldwyn Road will receive $375,000 to install right-turn lanes at each of the intersections. The work is expected to begin in March or April next year.
"I want to thank everybody who was involved in the petition," Mr Pucci said.
"Without that kind of support from the community it's hard to get things like this done.
