LOGAN City Council has lashed out at Logan MP Michael Pucci in a letter which it then made public, along with the correspondence which sparked its harsh response.
Mr Pucci's letter to council, dated July 8, urges council to provide a counter offer in its negotiations with Energex, to move the Loganlea to Jimboomba power line off the Logan River.
The letter followed council's firm rejection of Energex's request for a $5 million contribution.
"I would request your assistance as a matter of urgency to ensure council provides an estimated in-kind contribution to make the alternative route viable," Mr Pucci wrote.
Council's response, also dated July 8, was signed by 10 councillors, including Deputy Mayor Russell Lutton.
"Your letter is obviously politically motivated, and shows a complete lack of concern for the residents directly impacted, and more broadly for all residents and ratepayers of Logan, who you seem to accept should be paying to have the power lines taken off the river," the councillors wrote.
Mr Pucci said he was "caught off guard" by the letter as his intention was to find a win-win solution.
"I didn't understand why they were sending this letter back to me, I really thought council wanted to work together on finding a solution," he said.
He said he was spurred to write to council after Energex indicated it was ready to progress with planning and construction on next stage of the power line.
"I could have just sat on that and not done anything and you know what would have happened? They'd be building that across the river right now," he said.
Mr Pucci said he had campaigned against the power line "from day one" and continued to do so.
"I know that I would like to have this off the river and I know the council wants this off the river... and the VETO group, and that's - from day one - what I've been working towards and all the evidence shows it," he said.
The councillors also criticise Energex and energy minister Mark McArdle in their letter, penned during the latest meeting of the environment committee.
The letter was signed by Cr Lutton, Cr Don Petersen, Cr Lisa Bradley, Cr Steve Swenson, Cr Graham Able, Cr Luke Smith, Cr Laurie Smith, Cr Cherie Dalley, Cr Phil Pidgeon and Cr Jennie Breene.
The committee also recommended that both letters be placed into the public records.
Mayor Pam Parker and Cr Darren Power were not at the meeting.
