THE Jimboomba Redbacks senior AFL side swapped its familiar red jerseys for special blue ones to raise thousands of dollars for the Prostate Cancer Foundation on Saturday.
More than 100 people were on the sidelines to cheer the Redbacks on at Glenlogan Park as they took to the field in a friendly match against Collingwood Park, defeating the Ipswich team 113-30.
The match was one of the highlights of a fundraising day being held at the club to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation, with the blue jerseys auctioned off after the match and raising about $4000.
As well as the seniors match, the under 16s and masters sides also played games for an enthusiastic crowd.
There was also a jumping castle on the sidelines for children to play in along along with raffles, family entertainment, food and refreshments among an enjoyable atmosphere.
Prostate Cancer Foundation state manager Graham Higg said it was great the Redbacks were holding the charity event and the town "punches above its weight" when it comes to fundraising for prostate cancer.
"It (Jimboomba) raises more money for prostate cancer than any other comparable town its size," he said.
"I love to see the players in their (blue) jerseys. It's a great look.
"They'll be adorning people's walls all over town (after the auction)."
Redbacks president Darren Webb said he was pleased with the turnout for the event and it was great to see the community supporting the club in its efforts for such a worthy cause.
Part of the charity day also included a 10 year reunion of the Redbacks' first premier team, who defeated Bribie Island to take out the Grand Final in 2004.
2004 Redbacks premier team player Grenville Geraghty said he was pleased to be able to return for the event and reflect on past matches with other players.
"I didn't think I'd end up being a premiership player in a premiership team," he said.
"It's good to see all the new faces (at the Redbacks) and see how the club's going."
