A HAZARD reduction burn in the Plunkett Conservation Park behind Yarrabilba is sending thick pillars of smoke into the sky over Logan Country.
The burn is being conducted by the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) as part of an annual hazard reduction and conservation management program.
A statement from the QPWS said the aim was to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to "create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas within the park".
"This will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration," the statement said.
