THANK you Jimboomba Times for holding our elected representatives accountable between elections.
Last week’s coverage (April 9) of the Logan Village Green issues exposed the attempt by Cr Pidgeon to blame shift.
Plus the state politicians 9 per cent pay increase article and editorial highlighted how unavailable our local members are to discuss their pay increase, especially when we are all being asked “to do the heavy lifting” to overcome the apparent financial crisis in our lucky country.
Late last week Energex issued a “Notice of Planned Works” for work to start on April 14, 2014 for part of an underground section of its proposed 110kV power line from Loganlea to Jimboomba.
Strangely, last week’s Notice of Works map shows the power line ending with a pole termination on Glen Road, just north of the Logan River and the proposed first river crossing into Newstead Park.
Obviously Energex still want to run this power line along the Logan River to Logan Village and they want our community to think we can’t stop them.
The Notice of Works claims this power line “will help provide additional security and reliability to the electricity supply for Jimboomba and northern Beaudesert areas”. But how can it? The January 2013 Logan River flood showed that Energex cannot get in to our area to restore services during and for many days after a flood.
Energex is a corporatised state government monopoly making substantial profits from network poles and wires. They are accountable to Minister Mark McArdle and our elected state government members. So in the lead up to the 2015 state election, we as a community, need to galvanise our opposition to this high cost power line.
