HUNDREDS of cyclists are expected to descend on Yarrabilba this weekend when the development's first annual Festival of Cycling rides into town.
The two-day event is being organised by Cycling Queensland, with more than 600 people are expected over the two days.
Proceeds raised will be going to road safety charity BRAKE.
The rides will be in two formats - a competitive event as part of the Queensland Road Teams Series on Saturday and Sunday a non-competitive community cycle of 10, 32, 34 or 52kms on Sunday.
The routes for both events encompasses roads in Yarrabilba and Logan Village, starting from Darlington Drive in Yarrabilba.
Entry in the community event ranges from $10 for an adult in the 10km event to $25 for an adult in the 52km event.
There are several prizes up for grabs including a two night family escape at Cedar Creek Lodges, a family horse riding pass at Thunderbird Park and a family pass to the TreeTop Challenge high ropes course.
Yarrabilba resident and keen cyclist Ray McCabbin said he was looking forward to donning his helmet and getting on his bike for the festival.
"I'm looking forward to the exercise, the outdoor activity and the catching up with old friends and making some new ones," he said.
"I live in the community and we're trying to promote a community spirit here and the exercise is a great way to do that.
"This area is well suited for it."
