SEVERAL Jimboomba Athletics Club members won medals at the Australian open and combined events track and field championships in Melbourne recently.
Tianah List stormed home to place second in the under 17s women's heptathlon after finishing the first day in sixth position.
Tianah threw over 40m in her javelin event and performed well in the final 800m race, collecting enough points to leap-frog into silver medal position.
The heptathlon was conducted over two days and comprises sprint hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m on the first day, followed by long jump, javelin and either 800m for girls or 1500m for boys on the second day.
Camryn Newton-Smith picked up a silver medal in the under 15s girls heptathlon. The javelin event made the difference for Camryn, who threw 38m to her closest rival's 25m and boosted her total by over 600 points.
Camryn also ran a personal best time of 2 minutes, 33 seconds in the 800m to hold on to the second spot.
The third Jimboomba Athletics Club member to claim silver was Hamish Boyd, who overcame injury to finish the 1500m just one point ahead of the bronze medal winner.
Matthew Lenz scored highly in high jump and shot put to place fifth in the under 16s boys heptathlon.
Coach Ralph Newton said he was delighted with the athletes results.
"The combined events are among the most difficult of track and field events as they require athletes to jump, throw, hurdle, sprint and finish with an endurance run," he said.
"Our athletes have all been training hard and came away with personal bests. They did extremely well against the best in Australia."
Coming back from injury, Genevieve LaCaze placed third in the open women's 3000m steeplechase while Jimboomba athletics hammer throw coach Debbie Sosimenko had three of her squad athletes make the final of the hammer after they all finished the top eight.
