JIMBOOMBA Rotary club is seeking donations to fill a 20-foot shipping container headed to Vanuatu in early March.
Rotary is asking for any school-related material - from sewing machines and desks, to stationery and computers - to be donated for children in need.
Club president Des Madgwick has been running the charity collection for the past few years.
He became aware of the cause while holidaying in Vanuatu and learning of the lack of facilities impeding the local children’s education.
“We’re basically sending stuff up there to help the education of the children,” he said.
“We’ll take anything at all, sports equipment, gymnasium sets. If there are any soccer clubs out there that are changing their uniforms we’d gratefully accept any of their old uniforms,” he said.
“We’re after anything at all to do with education, from kindergarten upwards.”
Mr Madgwick said the container was almost half full and with the help of the public it would be well stocked by the time it leaves for Vanuatu in early March.
“We’ve collected quite a bit of stuff ourselves but any help we can get from the public will be much appreciated,” he said.
“We’d like some more desks and chairs and play equipment. There’s two or three kindergartens around the area but you’ve got no swing sets. There’s nothing for little kids, we took one over last year and it went down a treat. The kindergarten kids think it’s great.”
While all donations would be appreciated, Mr Madgwick stressed the goods must be in working order.
“We’re willing to take most stuff as long as it’s in good condition. It’s got to be operational,” he said.
